Luís Filipe is a defender of Olhanense. He was born on 14 June 1979 in Cantanhede, Portugal.
In 1998 Luís started playing professionally with Académica, where he had spent two years at the youth academy. During half a season Filipe scored twice in 19 matches for this team. In January 1999 the defender penned a contract with the Spanish side Atlético Madrid, however he was sent to its reserve team.
In the summer 1999 Filipe returned to Portugal, where he sealed a deal with Braga, which plays in the Primeira Liga. During two seasons the footballer featured in 52 matches and kicked 8 goals as a first team player of Braga. In the summer 2001 the defender signed for Sporting which is one of the three top clubs in Portugal. During two years and a half Luís played for this Lisbon team as a substitute taking part in 18 games for Sporting from the summer 2001 to January 2004.
In January 2004 the club’s management decided to loan Filipe to União Leiria. During the rest of the 2003/2004 season the footballer found the net 2 times in 16 matches, proving himself as a reliable player.
In the summer 2004 Marítimo purchased the player´s rights from Sporting and signed an agreement with Filipe. The 2004/2005 season was very successful for the footballer because the head coach included him in the starting eleven. All in all the defender scored 1 goal in 30 games for this Portuguese outfit.
In the summer 2005 Filipe returned to Braga, where he had spent two seasons in the past. For the second time the footballer showed his best qualities, becoming the key defender of Braga. From 2005 to 2007 Filipe made 56 appearances and kicked 1 goal for this team.
In the summer 2007 Filipe joined the Lisbon club Benfica, when he spent a season. Then he was sent on loan to Vitória de Guimarães where he netted 1 goal in 16 games for a year. After reuniting with Benfica, Luís spent two more years with the Lisbon team, however he occasionally appeared both as a member of the starting eleven and as a substitute. All in all he played 23 games for Benfica.
In the summer 2011 Luís Filipe moved to Olhanense signing a permanent contract with this club. During the 2011/2012 season the defender made several appearances for his new team, where he was used as a reserve player.
From 2000 to 2002 Luís Filipe took part in 10 matches for the Portugal U-21 national football team.
