Luke Garbutt is a left full back of Everton and the Three Lions national U-19 team. He was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
In 2001 Luke started to play football in the Leeds United academy. In 2009 he moved to the Everton youth system. By the way, his transfer to ‘The Toffees’ was marked by a scandal, because the club did not pay transfer fee to Leeds and the management was summoned to a tribunal. Eventually the Liverpool side squad was forced to pay £600,000.
On 29 September 2011, the footballer went on a month loan to Cheltenham Town. Few days later, on 4 October the same year, Luke made his temporary club début in the match against Wycombe Wanderers (the Football League Trophy) and was victorious (3-1). Garbutt’s first appearance in the FA Cup match came really soon, but Cheltenham was drawn away to London side Tottenham Hotspur and lost 3-0 without any options.
Luke’s performance made a good impression on the temporary club’s management and they decided to extend his loan spell. On 31 January 2012, the footballer repaid them by scoring the spectacular début goal in his career in the match against Macclesfield Town and the 3-1 victory helped his team to get to the top line of the league table.
Soon the player fired a goal again, this time during the match against Crawley Town. On 13 February, his loan contract was prolonged till the following year. In May 2012 Garbutt returned to his parent Everton.
In 2008 the back began his international career by playing for the Three Lions U-16 squad. From 2008 till 2010 Luke was capped 24 times for the U-17 team and received an invitation from older Three Lions squads.
He also took part in the European U-17 Football Championship and lifted the cup along with his peers in the final match, where the Three Lions celebrated a victory over Spain (2-1).
