Mahamadou Diarra is a Malian midfielder. He was born on 18 May 1981 in Bamako, Mali.
Diarra’s professional career took off in 1998, when he got an opportunity to play for the main team of OFI Crete. The midfielder got the feel of the club’s life and came on the pitch as a defensive midfielder rather often. He spent one season in the Greek side team, made 21 appearances and netted two goals, after which turned his attention towards the Netherlands.
Mahamadou signed his next contract with Vitesse. He was lucky to get to the team at the time it needed a leader of a defensive line in midfield. The footballer fitted that position better than anyone and took part in 69 games during three years, which were very fruitful for him.
In 2002 French side Lyon decided to secure the services of the Malian footballer and agreed a deal on permanent basis with him. Since then the club could boast of a very solid defensive midfielder. Mahamadou made 123 appearances and scored seven goals during four years of his French career. In 2006 Diarra ended his Lyon spell with Real Madrid move and spent five years in the new club, playing 90 games and kicking three goals.
In the summer 2011 Mahamadou returned to France, this time to sign a contract with Monaco. He stayed in the club for half a year, but made only nine appearances. In 2012 Diarra moved to England after transferring to Fulham. He showed a stellar performance and was really useful for the club, taking part in 19 matches of ‘The Cottagers’ during the season. In the summer 2013 Diarra was released from the club, but returned in 2014 by the new manager Felix Magath. Later on he left The Craven Cottage.
From 2001 the footballer has been capped for the Mali national team.
