Maikel Kieftenbeld is a defensive midfielder of Groningen. He was born on 26 June 1990 in Dalfsen, Netherlands.
Maikel’s career took off in youth team Lemelerveld, where the footballer performed till he was noticed by Twente scouts in 2003.
In the summer 2003, Kieftenbeld became a trainee of Twente academy and stayed there during four years before moving to the youth system of Go Ahead Eagles in 2007.
One year later, the player penned his first professional two-year contract with the club and made his début in the first match of the 2008/2009 season, which ended in a 5-0 loss for his squad. His first goal for the team came in the 2-1 victory over BV Veendam in April 2009. Maikel featured in 63 games and found the net three times for Go Ahead Eagles during his spell.
In 2010, Kieftenbeld’s transfer was agreed by Groningen, which invited the midfielder on a three-year deal. The footballer took part in 57 fixtures and scored one goal for the club as of November 2012.
