Marc Ziegler is a German goalkeeper. He was born in Blieskastel, located in Saarland.
Marc started his career in 1993 in the youth system of Stuttgart. A year later, in 1994, he was promoted to the first team of the Swabians as a second-choice keeper. Ziegler stayed at the club until 1999, making 41 appearances for the club. Then he had a lengthy string of one-year spells at various European clubs. After the 1990/00 season with Arminia Bielefeld, the goalkeeper played in Turkey with Bursaspor. In 2001 he left the country and moved to Austria, where he spent 2 years, first at FC Tirol and then at Austria Vienna. At the beginning of 2003/04 Ziegler returned to Germany to join Hannover 96 on a 1-year loan deal. After the loan had expired, the player made a comeback with Austria and spent only one season there. During the next two seasons, back in Germany, he played at the third division side 1. FC Saarbrücken and then was loaned to Arminia Bielefeld. In 2007 Borussia Dortmund reached an agreement with Saarbrücken on the acquisition of Ziegler for the fee of €250 thousand. In Dortmund the footballer finally managed to settle down for a longer period.
For 8 years of his wanderings, Marc managed to play at 6 clubs in Germany, Turkey and Austria. However, he was the first-choice keeper only at Hannover 96, making a total of 30 appearances.
For three seasons with Borussia, Ziegler appeared in 23 matches as the second-choice goalkeeper. In 2010 he returned to former side Stuttgart, signing a contract with the Swabians until 2013. The transfer cost €300 thousand. Since 2010 Marc hasn’t made a single appearance for the club, since the first goalkeeper has been Sven Ulreich.
In 2013 Ziegler retired from football.
