Marcell Jansen is a German footballer who operates at left-midfield or left-back for Hamburger SV and the German national team. Marcell was born on November 4, 1985 in the city of Mönchengladbach.
In 1993 Marcell joined Borussia Mönchengladbach youth academy from local SV Lürrip. He had already won international caps for Germany at youth levels when in September 2003 his manager decided to include him into the squad for the forthcoming league match. He was an unused substitute in that game. The versatile footballer debuted for the club in December 2004 where his team was thrashed by Hertha BSC at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
In the summer 2006 the German full-back was linked with a move to many European sides including HSV. But the club`s manager Jupp Heynckes dismissed any speculation, explaining that the player was not for sale. Marcell Jansen supported his manager`s decision.
It came as a surprise when in July 2007 Jansen put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with Bayern Munich. On August 28, 2008 Marcell Jansen moved to Hamburg from the Bavarian giants after he failed to make an impact at Allianz Arena. Marcell signed the contract tying him to the Imtech Arena until 2013.
The industrious player has 36 international caps for Germany.
