An Uruguayan footballer Marcelo Andrés Silva Fernández plays as a defender for UD Almería. Marcelo was born on 21 March 1989 in Mercedes.
In 2009, Silva signed for Danubio and his professional career began. His debut season at a senior level was lined with several appearances made for the main squad. That turned to be enough for the defender to be noticed by big European clubs. He was considered to be a very promising player thanks to his good reflexes and a big frame with room to grow.
In the summer 2010, Marcelo moved to Spain, where he joined Almeria. Despite a great difference between the level of the Spanish football and the football of his motherland, the Uruguayan player managed to display good performance during his debut year. He very quickly started to fit in the squad, get some tactical training and know his teammates.
In January 2012, Marcelo agreed on a temporary deal with Peñarol. He stayed at the club until the summer 2012. He racked up two goals in 11 matches for the temporary squad. After the spell, he returned to Almeria.
On international level, Marcelo Silva made 11 appearances and netted 1 goal for the Uruguay U-20 team. The defender participated in the 2009 South American Youth Championship and in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
