Marco Streller is a Swiss professional forward born on 18 June 1981 in Basel, Switzerland.
He came up through the youth ranks of FC Aesch and FC Arlesheim in between 1988 and 2000. In 2000, Marco joined the first team of his hometown club FC Basel. After a successful debut season at the club, Streller spent two seasons out on loan at Concordia Basel, scoring 16 goals in 30 appearances, and FC Thun. On returning to Basel, the skillful striker scored 13 goals in 16 matches that sparked interest of German top clubs and in 2004 he signed for Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. However, he couldn’t play to the full capacity at Stuttgart because of injuries. Overall, Streller scored 9 goals in 55 matches for the club.
In June 2007, the Swiss striker returned to his motherland and struck roots at FC Basel. Already in his debut season Streller won the Swiss Super League and the domestic cup with FCB and pulled off the season as the club’s top scorer with 12 league goals. After Basel won the Double in the 2009/10 campaign thanks to Streller’s terrific performances, the striker was given the captain’s armband for the next season. He recorded the Double once again in the 2011/12 season.
For two years, since 2000 to 2002, Marco Streller earned 13 international caps to the Switzerland U-21 team. In between 2003 and 2011, he was a regular international for the senior Switzerland side amassing 12 goals in 37 matches.
