A professional footballer Marcos Andrés González Salazar plays as a centre back for Flamengo. He was born on 9 June 1980 in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1999 Marcos signed for Universidad de Chile, where his junior career had passed. He won the Chilean Primera Division twice (in 1999 and in 2000). In 2002, he was loaned out by Rangers, making 23 appearances and netting 1 goal for the temporary team.
In 2004, a move to Colón happened. The footballer had featured in 13 matches before he signed for Palestino. In 2006, González penned a two-year contract with Columbus Crew, making 48 appearances for the club. In 2008, the centre back was scouted by Universidad Católica, where he was groomed during the next two seasons. In total, he appeared 87 times as the squad’s starter.
In 2011, a new contract was penned with Universidad de Chile. He spent a year with his boyhood club and moved to Flamengo in 2012. His debut for the new team happened in March 2011.
In 2002, Marcos got his first call for the Chile national squad. Although born in Brazil, the footballer’s lived in Chile since he was 2 years old and his citizenship is Chilean.
