Marcus Berg is a Swedish footballer who defends the colours of Panathinaikos. He was born on August 17, 1986 in Torsby.
When a child, he started playing with IFK Velen. In 2002 he moved to a local club Torsby IF. After that Marcus completed IFK Göteborg switch. In 2005 Berg made his debut for the club. A year later he made his first outing for the Sweden U21 team. Marcus quickly established himself as a first-team regular and managed to net 8 goals in 19 matches.
In 2007 he became the team`s top goalscorer. The Dutch side FC Groningen expressed their interest in the striker and started monitoring him. Soon he penned a contract with the club. The size of the transfer fee FC Groningen had paid to secure the Swedish striker was 38m SEK (approximately 4 million euros). Marcus made an incredible start, scoring 14 goals in 17 matches. All in all he made 56 appearances and netted 32 goals while playing for the club.
In 2009 Berg was rewarded for his brilliant form with a contract from Hamburger SV. From the very start he was a regular in the first-team squad but he failed to impress his new manager. The striker struggled for goals since joining HSV. He found the net only 5 times in 43 matches. As a result he was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven. Marcus improved his performance and scored 8 goals in 25 matches during his loan spell at Philips Stadion. He also made his first hat-trick there. In 2013 Berg moved to Greece and joined Panathinaikos.
In 2008 Berg made his national team debut. He has participated in 23 matches and has scored 6 goals for Sweden so far.
