Marek Hamšík is a midfielder for Napoli. He was born on 27 July 1987 in Banská Bystrica, Czechoslovakia.
At the age of 13 Hamšík entered Jupie Podlavice youth academy. In 2002 Marek signed his first contract with Slovan Bratislava. For 2 seasons at the home club he made a single appearance but managed to score a goal. When Marek turned 17 he was transferred to Brescia for €500.000 and debuted in a match against Chievo Verona in March 2005. During 3 seasons at Brescia Marek made 65 appearances and netted 10 goals.
In 2007 Marek was a tidbit for giants like Arsenal, Milan, Inter, Chelsea and Manchester United but the Slovakian midfielder chose Napoli and signed a 5-year contract with the Italian club.
Hamšík’s debut match for Napoli was a 4-0 win against Cesena. Marek scored one goal and assisted on another. During his debut season at Napoli the Slovakian midfielder became a goleador by scoring 10 goals in 40 appearances. A year later Hamšík scored 2 goals in 6 games of the UEFA Euro 2008 qualification.
In 2010 Napoli extended Marek’s contract until 2015.
Hamšík played for the Slovakia youth teams until his debut with the senior squad in 2007. During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, at the age of 20, Marek Hamšík was appointed the Slovakia national team captain.
Marek Hamšík is a bronze medalist of Coppa Italia 2011, two-fold Slovak Footballer of the Year, Slovakian Young Footballer of the Year, Serie A Young Footballer of the Year. He is also the 10th best scorer at Napoli with 56 goals so far.
