Marek Sapara is a Slovak midfielder who was born in 1982. He began playing with the youth squad of Košice. In 2000 the footballer made his debut for the main team.
In 2002 Marek moved to Ružomberok. In the 2003/2004 season the club finished third in the Slovak Super Liga. In the 2005/2006 campaign Sapara captained Ružomberok which won both the Slovak Cup and the Super Liga title. Having taken part in Champions League qualification matches in summer, Sapara joined Norwegian outfit Rosenborg where he won the Norwegian Championship twice in three seasons and was voted the Tippeligaen player of the month.
Sapara participated in the 2007/2008 Champions League group stage. The player’s contract with the Norwegian club was to expire in 2010 that’s why in February 2010 Rosenborg sold Sapara’s rights to Turkish side Ankaragücü. Having spent a season with the capital club, Marek signed for Trabzonspor.
In 2013 Sapara was released from the club.
Since 2005 Marek Sapara has been capped for the Slovakia national football team. In 2009 he helped his team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. During the tournament the footballer took part in group stage matches together with the national team.
