Mark González is a left winger of Chilean descent under contract with CSKA Moscow. He is also known as Speedy González for his high speed and acceleration. He was born on July 10, 1984 in Durban, South Africa.
In his teenage years he played with the juniors of Universidad Católica. In 2002 González signed his first professional contract with the club. During his 2002-2004 spell there he made 42 appearances and notched 8 goals. In 2004 he joined Albacete and played for the club until 2006, featuring in 25 matches and scoring 5 goals. In 2006 Mark was loaned out to Real Sociedad. He scored an equalizer in the match against Real Madrid, ended in 1-1 draw.
In 2006 González completed a move to Liverpool. He made his debut, coming on as a substitute in the pre-season friendly between Liverpool and Crewe Alexandra. On August 9, 2006 González substituted Steven Gerrard in the 85th minute and clinched the 88th minute winner in the Champions League qualifier, securing a 2-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa. Mark scored his first league goal in a 3-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur. During his 2006/07 season at Liverpool he featured in 25 games and netted 2 goals. In June 2007 Mark González penned a deal for a fee of £5 million with Real Betis. He scored a vital goal in the glorious 2-1 win over Real Madrid, which avoided the drop of Real Betis in La Liga. During his 2007–2009 spell at the club Mark made 44 appearances and clinched 10 goals.
In 2009 González was transferred to CSKA Moscow for a fee of €6.5million, sealing a five-year contract with the Russian club. On 16 August 2009 he made his debut for CSKA in the match against Lokomotiv Moscow. At the beginning of 2014 the player was loaned to a Chilean side Universidad Catolica.
Since 2003 González has won over 40 international caps for the Chile national football team.
