A Montenegrian footballer Marko Baša plays for Lille OSC on the position of a defender.
In 2004 he played for Serbia and Montenegro youth team. The same year the player won silver medal at the UEFA U21 Football Championship. In 2004 the defender played with his team at the Olympics football tournament in Athens but the squad turned out to be the last in the qualifying group.
On 16 August 2006 Marko earned a call-up from Serbia. That match against the Czech Republic national football team was the first one after the dissolution of a state union into two separate states (Serbia and Montenegro). However the defender himself missed the game. After that Baša has never received any official call-up from Serbia.
In 2007 the player frequently highlighted in his interviews that he was longing to represent Montenegro. The same year he was called up to participate in the match as a member of the Montenegro national football team. However Marko did not show up at that match. Montenegrian football officials made one more attempt to establish contact with Baša but he ignored another call-up. As a result the defender missed the opportunity to take part in Japanese tournament Kirin Cup. In August 2008 the coach of the Montenegro national football team made the last attempt to call up the player but he ignored the offer and just did not deign to appear at the match. Later he explained his behaviour to the press. According to footballer’s statement he supposedly had some disagreement with Football Federation officials, not with the coaches of the teams.
In March 2009 Marko was called up to play for Montenegro. That time he accepted the offer to play with the national football team. He made his debut on 28 March in the match against Italy and spent the full 90 minutes on the field.
