Markus Berger is a defender, born on January 21, 1985 in Salzburg, Austria.
Markus entered the youth academy of his hometown club Austria Salzburg in 1993 and spent there 6 years of his youth career studying the basics of football. In 1999, he was noticed by the scouts of Stuttgart from the German Bundesliga and transferred to their youth system. Berger spent three year at Stuttgart preparing for the start of his professional career. During the period between 2002 and 2004 Markus Berger was assigned with the academy of Eintracht Frankfurt where he spent the last two years of his youth career.
In 2004 Markus Berger returned to his motherland to sign a three-year contract with SV Ried. During his first season Berger was given a little playing time to get used with the pace of the game and for the manager to decide upon the good and the bad sides of his performance. For the next two seasons of Berger’s career in SV Ried the player was quite a frequent starter reaching the record of 61 games with 1 goal during a three-year stint at the club.
In the summer of 2007 Markus Berger set to move for Portugal to join Académica where he played for four years. This period of his professional career is marked with 71 league appearances and 5 goals. In 2012 Markus Berger moved to FC Chornomorets Odesa where he won a place in the starting line-up almost at once. In March 2014 Berger moved to a Norwegian side Start.
