Markus Miller was born on 8 April 1982 in Lindenberg, Germany.
He spent his younger days playing as a goalkeeper for local FC Lindenberg and FC Wangen. In 2000, Markus started out his senior career at VfB Stuttgart where he appeared exclusively for the reserves in the third division. After a two-year spell at VfB Stuttgart II, he spent one season at FC Augsburg and then moved to the Second Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC in 2003. During his seven-year stint there, Miller had 23 appearances for the reserve squad, amassing 183 games as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. In October 2007, he picked up an injury of his cruciate ligaments in away game against FC Hansa Rostock and was sidelined for 82 days. However, a young footballer was back to full fitness soon and shone in a friendly against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
In October 2008, Miller extended his contract with Karlsruher SC till 30 June 2010, but was sidelined again, now with some transfer fee concerns. He could play to his full capacity as a first-choice only in September 2009, keeping a clean sheet for another dozen matches.
In the 2010/11 season, a talented goalkeeper made a meteoric rise to the German Bundesliga, signing a two-year contract with Hannover 96. But because of another injury, he joined the team as a third-choice only at the end of the season. Markus Miller made his decent debut for the reserves in a match against Leipzig on 13 February 2011 and became a second-choice goalkeeper of the reserve squad for the rest of the season.
