Marten de Roon is a midfielder of Heerenveen. He was born on 29 March 1991 in Zwijndrecht, Netherlands.
Marten’s career took off in ASVH, from where he moved to the academy of Feyenoord and perfected his skills during six years, thus attracting the attention of Sparta.
On 27 March 2010, de Roon made his professional début for the main team of Sparta in the 3-0 loss to Twente. Half a year later, on 26 September 2011, the footballer managed to net his first goal (and the winner) in the 2-1 victory over Almere City. Marten fired two goals in 58 appearances and drew the attention of Eredivisie side AZ, Heracles and Heerenveen.
In April 2012, after his contract with the Rotterdam side club expired, the player decided to pen a deal with Heerenveen till 30 June 2015. De Roon continues to perform for the club at the position of a centre midfielder and wears number 15 shirt.
Marten was called up to the Netherlands national U-19 team and took part in the European U-19 Championship qualifiers. He made his first international appearance and goal on 12 November 2009 in the match against Malta.
