Martín Cáceres was born on 7 April 1987 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He’s a central defender for Juventus FC. At the start of his youth career Cáceres successfully played for Defensor Sporting in 2006/07 season.
In February 2007 he signed for Villarreal CF, but didn’t appear in a single game with the club having been loaned out immediately to Recreativo de Huelva for 2007/08 season. In the course of the season Cáceres has become a regular in the starting lineup and one of the best defenders at the club. His performance attracted attention of Real Madrid, Chelsea and other top European clubs’ scouts.
In June 2008 Martín signed for Barcelona in a transfer deal worth €16.5 million, and a buyout clause of €50 million.
In July 2009 Barcelona loaned Cáceres to Juventus with an option to make the Uruguayan defender a permanent player for €11 million. But Juventus rejected the offer, saying that the price was too high.
In August 2010 Cáceres was loaned out to Sevilla with a purchase option.
In May 2011 Sevilla agreed a deal with Barcelona for the permanent move of Cáceres.
In January 2012, after extended negotiations, Sevilla agreed to loan the Uruguayan to Juventus in a deal worth €1.5 million, and an option to purchase full economic rights to Cáceres for €8 million at the end of the season.
The Spanish club management agreed due to Cáceres’ persistency in his desire to play for the famed Turin club.
