Marwin Hitz began his football career in the youth ranks of FC St. Gallen in Switzerland where he played up to U-21 team. After the 2006/07 season he was loaned to the Challenge League club Yverdon-Sport FC from where he moved to FC Winterthur in winter 2008. It was a golden chance for Marwin to replace club’s first-choice goalkeeper who had his contract terminated.
Next season Hitz joined VfL Wolfsburg reserve squad playing in Regionalliga Nord. In the 2009/10 season he played 29 games before breaking into the first team. It happened in the beginning of 2010 when the first-choice goalkeeper was shown a red card and banned for the next two matches and his sub couldn’t come out to the pitch because of health condition. Thus, on 18 February 2010 Hitz got off to a flying start in the UEFA Champions League in a match against giant Villarreal CF and in a few days made his German Bundesliga debut in a match against FC Schalke 04. Till the end of the season he made other 5 appearances in goal before his colleagues could return to play.
In February 2011 Hitz extended his contract with the Wolves until June 2013. Afer that he joined Augsburg.
At the national level Marwin Hitz has had 6 appearances for the Swiss youth national team.
