Massimo Ambrosini is a midfielder of Fiorentina. He was born on 29 March 1977 in Pesaro, Italy.
Ambrosini spent the last two years of his youth career in the youth academy of A.C. Cesena, where he was one of the best players of the club’s youth team.
In 1994 Cesena promoted Massimo to the senior squad and that marked the beginning of his professional career. During the debut season the young midfielder played a lot of matches and was a key figure on the field. From 1994 to 1995 Ambrosini appeared in 25 matches and scored 1 goal for Cesena.
In 1995 A.C. Milan became interested in Ambrosini, and later that year signed a long-term contract with the young midfielder. During the 1995/96 season Massimo struggled to get into the all-star Milan side, and didn’t emerge as a key player. After 2 seasons with Milan, Massimo was loaned to Vicenza Calcio. During the season spent there as a midfielder, he scored 1 goal in 27 matches.
After returning to the home team, Ambrosini was much more experienced and fit, which made him a regular fixture in the A.C. Milan’s starting lineup. From that time on Massimo was a key midfielder and the club’s veteran. Since 1995 Ambrosini had played 344 matches, scored 29 goals and became a captain for A.C. Milan.
At the age of 36 Ambrosini transferred to Serie A rivals Fiorentina.
In 1995 Massimo scored 1 goal in 7 matches for the Italian U-18 team. From 1995 to 2000 Ambrosini played for the Italian U-21, with 21 games and 1 goal. From 1999 to 2008 Massimo Ambrosini was periodically invited to play for the Italian national football team, where he made 35 appearances.
