Matheus Henrique do Carmo Lopes was born on 8 March 1985 in Sete Lagoas, Brazil. He currently plays as a central defender for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya. Matheus is a product of youth team system FC América Mineiro. From 2000 to 2005, he performed for the youth team, thereafter the player signed his first professional contract.
In 2007, the footballer moved on loan to Grêmio, but could not gain a foothold in the first team. An attempt to play for Atlético Paranaense was also unsuccessful, so Matheus decided to move to Europe. In 2008, he played in five games for C.F. Os Belenenses.
In 2009, the defender returned to his motherland, where he performed for the Brazilian second division clubs up to 2011.
Later, Lopes was invited to FC Metalurh Zaporizhya, for which several his countrymen were playing. In March 2011, Matheus made his debut in the Premier League. The defender step by step gained a permanent place in the first squad.
