Mathias Abel is a professional German footballer currently playing as a defender for 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He was born on June 22, 1981 in Kaiserslautern, West Germany.
Mathias Abel’s professional career started off in 1998 at Eintracht Bad Kreuznach. He had spent two seasons with the side before he changed it for Borussia Dortmund II in 2000. From 2002 till 2005 the footballer performed for 1. FSV Mainz 05 and took part in 65 matches for the club.
From 2005 till 2008 the defender was the player of Schalke 04 FC. In the season of 2005/2006 Mathias Abel featured on loan for 1. FSV Mainz 05 and in 2007 he performed for Hamburger SV on loan. But unfortunately, crucial ligament injuries did not let him gain a lot of game practice.
In 2008 Mathias Abel joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The footballer made his debut for the squad on October 26, 2010 in a match for the German Cup against Arminia Bielefeld, which resulted in the victory of the Red Devils; 4 days later he played the full 90 minutes in the league game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
