Matias Fernandez is a midfielder of ACF Fiorentina. He was born on 15 May 1986 in Buenos Aires Argentina.
In 1996 the footballer joined the academy of Union La Calera where he had been fostered for two years until he was noticed by the scouts of Colo-Colo. He played well in the exhibition match for the Chilean club and was offered to join the club. Matias had been groomed there for five years until he was ready to start his professional career.
In 2004 Fernandez penned his first professional contract with Colo-Colo. He immediately managed to become the club’s undisputed starter. All in all Matias made 114 appearances for the club and amassed 58 goals.
Soon the talented player had been scouted by Villareal and put a pen to paper of a long-term contract with the team with the transfer fee of £8.7 million. The Chilean had been playing in La Liga for 3 seasons making 91 appearances and firing 7 goals.
In the summer 2009 Matias moved to Portugal to join Sporting Lisbon. Fernandez instantly became the anchor player of the team and played in 105 matches scoring 21 goals in Primeira Liga.
Since the summer 2012 he is the player of ACF Fiorentina.
In 2005 Fernandez played in 13 matches and banged in 5 goals for the Chile U-20 national team. That year he also managed to play his debut match for the Chilean national team. He was capped 48 times and fired in 12 goals up to now.
