Matías Nicolás Rodríguez is a footballer from Argentina, born in 1986. He joined the academy of Boca Juniors in 2005 and had trials in several teams (Ecuadorian sides Barcelona and Aucas and Austrian outfit LASK Linz) though was rejected.
In 2008 Rodríguez signed for the Uruguayan team Nacional and on 14 January 2010 he moved to Chile signing for Universidad de Chile. He helped the side to reach the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores in 2010 and in 2011 he was one of the key players when Universidad won the Copa Sudamericana. In 2011 and 2012 they were Torneo de Apertura winners and in 2011 the team won the Clausura title.
Matías Rodríguez moved to Sampdoria on 29 January 2013 for $3 million.
In 2012 he was called up to represent the Argentina national team in the qualification game against Ecuador for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but wasn’t used.
