Matías Silvestre was born on 25 September 1984 in Mercedes, Argentina. He possesses dual-citizenship, Argentine and Italian.
For nine years, from 1994 till 2003, Matías was playing on the youth side of a prosperous club from his neighbourhood Boca Juniors. In 2003, he broke into the first team of his feeder club making his senior debut in a 3-1 win over CA Lanús. Thanks to his high-key performances, a young promising centre back soon became a regular of the starting XI and made a total of 6 goals and 63 appearances for the club.
Nevertheless, Argentine player had much better days ahead of him with Italian Calcio Catania amassing 118 games and 7 goals for Serie A club between 2008 and 2011. Due to his influential play, a crafty footballer established himself as a fantastic asset for Catania and in the 2010/11 season even earned the captain’s armband.
In August 2011, Silvestre moved to Palermo for an outstanding fee of €7,3 million. He made a fine start with the Rosaneri on 11 September 2011 in splendid a 4-3 win over Inter.
In 2012 he was loaned out to Internazionale and a season later was offered a permanent contract with the club. However, he represented another San Siro club, AC Milan, in the season 2013/2014.
