Matteo was born on February 14, 1981 in Rimini, Italy. He made his professional breakthrough for his hometown club Rimini in 1998. Brighi`s first two seasons saw him make 44 appearances and notch 7 goals.
During the 2000-2004 period the promising midfielder wore the jerseys of Juventus, Bologna, Parma and Brescia. He clocked up nearly 100 starts and netted 2 goals while playing for these clubs.
In 2004 Brighi put his signature under a long-term deal with Roma. However he soon was loaned out to Chievo. During his time with the Gialloblu Matteo appeared in 89 matches and scored 9 goals. After returning to Roma he quickly became almost permanent fixture on the teamsheet, managing 9 goals in 108 matches.
Brighi spent the 2011/2012 season on loan at Atalanta. In the summer of 2012 the Italian football player agreed to another loan. Torino was in search of a player who could bolster their midfield. And Matteo was a perfect choice.
From 2000 to 2004 he earned international recognition for Italy at U-18, 20 and 21 levels, firing two goals. The player turned out 4 times for the senior national side in between 2002 and 2009.
