Matthew Booth is a South African player who was born on 14 March 1977 in Cape Town. Booth started his youth career in Cape Town Spurs in 1994 and spent in the youth team two years until he was offered a professional contract. After playing for two seasons in the senior team during which he made 92 appearances and scored 5 goals, the player moved to Mamelodi Sundowns. Booth played in the team from 1998 to 20002 and overall made 114 outings and netted the ball 6 times.
In 2002 the defender penned a deal with the Russian side Rostov and subsequently stayed in the team for two years. The next club in his career was Krylia Sovetov where he was in the pecking order for 5 years, playing in 107 matches and scoring 7 times. In 2009 the player returned to South Africa, signing a contract with Mamelodi Sundowns for two seasons. In 2011 he moved to Ajax Cape Town. After two years with the club Booth switched for Bidvest Wits.
He was capped for the national side for the first time on 20 February 1999 in the match against Botswana. He made more than 30 appearances for the national side and took part in the 2010 World Cup and the the Olympic Games.
