Matthias Zimmermann is a German defender, born on 16 June 1992 in Pforzheim.
From an early age Zimmermann played football, first at VfB Grötzingen until 2002, and then made a move to Karlsruher SC youth team at the age of 10. Having scrambled through the youth and second teams of the club, in 2009 Matthias signed his first professional deal. Before the winter transfer period 2009/10 he played mostly at the second team. But on 6 December 2009 Zimmermann debuted for the main team in the match versus Rot Weiss Ahlen. On 28 November 2010 the footballer delivered his debut goal in the match versus Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. In 2011/12 Matthias, together with his teammate Lukas Rupp joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. He debuted in the Bundesliga 12th round, when he made a sub appearance on the 83rd minute of the game. He was sent on loan to Greuther Furth in 2013.
During 2007-2011, Zimmermann played more that 40 matches for the Germany youth national teams ranging from U-15 to U-20. In 2009 he won the UEFA European U-17 Championship and appeared in the FIFA U-17 World Cup later that year. His elder brother Christian was a footballer as well, but died tragically on 16 February 2011.
