Mattia Cassani is a defender, born on 26 August 1983 in Borgomanero, Italy.
Cassani’s youth career took off in the youth academy of Juventus where the young defender had been fostered for three years. After successfully finishing it, Mattia deserved to join the main squad of Bianconeri.
In 2002 Mattia put pen to paper of a contract with Juventus but didn’t manage to play at least one match during the first half of the season. In January 2003 he was loaned out to Sampdoria. He was able to make only 2 appearances there and had to wait until the next season to demonstrate his skills.
In the summer 2003 Cassani signed a deal with Hellas Verona which expected this talented right wing back to become an anchor player of the team. For three years the Italian had been cementing the defensive line of Gialloblu. He had made 118 appearances for Verona.
After strongly developing his skills, Mattia could reckon on the better terms of the contract. So, his €2.5 million transfer to Palermo in 2006 wasn’t a surprise. He signed a long-term contract and immediately became the starting eleven player of Rosanero. Mattia played in 161 matches of the team and scored twice. In the summer 2011 the Italian was loaned to ACF Fiorentina and later signed a permanent deal. In 2013 he was loaned out to Genoa and later on to Parma. In 2014 Cassani penned a permanent deal with the club.
From 2003 to 2004 Mattia was capped seven times for Italian U-20 and U-21 teams. In 2009 Cassani received his first call-up in the Italian national team. Up to now he has played in 11 matches.
