Maurice Edu (commonly known as ‘Mo’) is a defensive midfielder of Stoke City, who is also capable of operating at a centre back position. He was born on 18 April 1986 in Fontana, California, United States. From 2007 the footballer has been capped for the United States national team.
In 2004 Maurice started to play football for the Maryland Terrapins University squad. The player managed to do justice to himself and drew the attention of various American pro-clubs. In 2006 Edu agreed to participate in the MLS and represent the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
In 2007 Mo entered the MLS Superdraft and penned a contract with Canadian side Toronto. The footballer made his début for the club on 25 April the same year. His first goal came on 12 May in the match against Chicago Fire.
In August 2008 Rangers lodged a bid for Edu worth £2.6 million, which was accepted. The midfielder made 96 appearances and netted nine goals for the new club by 2012, when he completed a move to Stoke City. In 2013 the player had a loan spell at Turkish Bursaspor.
