Maurício Fernandes is a defender born on 5 July 1976 in Passo Fundo, Brazil.
In 1999 the defender started his professional career in Vila Nova, where he spent half a season failing to play a single match. During two years Maurício moved to different Brazilian clubs, where he didn’t manage to demonstrate his abilities on the field.
In 2002 Fernandes joined the Brazilian side Fluminense on a long-term contract. However the footballer managed to spend only one season with his new club making 31 appearances in the starting XI and scoring 1 goal. In 2003 Juventude expressed a wish to purchase Maurício and made him an excellent contract proposal. For half a year, from January to the summer 2003, Fernandes played for Juventude before he attracted the attention of different European football clubs.
In the summer 2003 Maurício changed his club moving to Braga, with which he penned a three-year contract. During first two seasons the defender got into the starting line-up only 17 times. In the summer 2005 he was loaned to Estrela Amadora where he spent a full season scoring 4 goals in 31 matches.
In January 2007 Maurício joined Pohang Steelers where he spent only half a year. In the summer of the same year Fernandes moved to Estrela Amadora where he had spent some time as a loan player in the past. The 2007/2008 season was very successful for the defender because he managed to feature in 27 games and score 4 goals for his new team. In the summer 2008 Maurício joined Ergotelis where he found the net twice in 20 matches. In the summer 2009 Fernandes sealed a deal with Feirense where he earned a place in the starting eleven in 22 matches scoring 3 goals.
In the summer 2010 Maurício committed his future to Olhanense where he spent three seasons from 2010 to 2013.
