Mauro Zárate is a striker, born on 18 March 1987 in Haedo, Argentina.
Mauro’s professional career started at Vélez Sársfield youth academy. After many years of successful performances with the club’s youth squad Mauro was promoted to the first team. Mauro played with his home club for 3 years and was the club’s key striker. From 2004 to 2007 Mauro Zárate made 99 appearances and scored 28 goals for the Argentine club.
In 2007 Mauro was transferred to Qatari Al-Sadd Sports Club. The young Argentine striker played with Al-Sadd for mere half a season scoring 4 goals in only 6 appearances until in January 2008 he was loaned out to Birmingham City F.C. For another half a season at the English club Mauro netted 4 goals in 14 appearances.
In the summer of 2008 Mauro continued his career as a loaned player at Italian Lazio. During the season at the Biancocelesti Zárate embraced the role of a key striker and netted 13 goals in 36 appearances. S.S. Lazio were impressed by the Argentine player’s performance and decided to purchase Zárate. Mauro signed a permanent contract with the Italian Serie A Lazio and successfully played as a regular with the club’s first team for two seasons. During that time Mauro made 67 appearances and scored 12 goals for the Italian club.
In 2011 Internazionale became interested in the Argentine winger and loaned him from Lazio for the 2011/12 season.
In the summer 2013 Zarate moved to Velez Sarsfield, but one year later joined West Ham United.
In 2006 Mauro Zárate was named Top Scorer of the Argentine Primera. In 2007 Mauro was capped 5 times and netted 2 goals for Argentina U-20.
