Victorio Maximiliano Pereira is a defender of Benfica. He was born on 8 June 1984 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
His junior career started at Defensor, where he studied football in its minutest details. He used to be the best defender of the youth team of the academy. In 2002, Maximiliano was ready to try his hand at professional game.
He was an 18-year-old man, when his first pro contract with Defesor Sportig was signed. During his first season, Pereira established a reputation of a reliable and promising player, who is able to follow all the coach’s demands. That’s why all the following seasons Maxi performed as a starter, missing only a few matches through bad physical condition.
In 2007, the footballer caught attention of various European clubs, but Benfica turned to be the most forceful, as the club was looking for players like Pereira. A contract was signed for a fee of €3 million and 70% of the player’s rights. Maxi’s start to life at the Portuguese club was fortunate, despite the fact that he didn’t manage to take part in all the team’s fixtures. His first season gave him an opportunity to fit in the squad and get some necessary training. Within some time, Maximiliano started to play as a right-back in the starting line-up of the team.
His first call for the national squad of his motherland came in 2005. Since that time, he has been regularly invited to perform for the team. He has already made 64 appearances and scored one goal at the international level.
