Maximiliano Rubén plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder for Newell’s Old Boys. He was born in 1981 in Rosario, Argentina. He graduated from Newell’s Old Boys where he went on his senior career in 1999. In 2002, he moved to Spain RCD Espanyol and made his league debut in September in a 0-2 loss at Real Madrid.
In 2005, Maxi Rodríguues moved to Atlético Madrid for a fee of €5 million. He played for the team until 2010 though made only 10 appearances during his second season with the club because of an injury.
In January 2010, Rodríguez left Spain for Premier League side Liverpool. He made his debut as a substitute in the league match against Stoke City. All in all he made 73 appearances and scored 17 goals until he returned to Argentina in the summer of 2012. Since then he plays for Newell’s Old Boys.
In 2001 he was a part of the U-20 national team helping Argentina to win the FIFA World Youth Championship and in for the first time 2003 he represented the senior team in the match against Japan.
