Francisco Javier Rodríguez Pinedo (better known as Maza) is a centre back, born in Mazatlán, the state of Sinaloa, Mexico.
Rodríguez started his professional career at the renowned Mexican club Guadalajara, debuting for the club in 2002. For six seasons, the defender scored 4 goals in 171 matches for the club.
On 9 May 2008 Francisco was purchased by Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for the transfer fee of $1.8 million and signed a three-year contract with the Red-whites. Rodríguez opened his account with PSV on 25 November 2008 versus Heracles Almelo.
During three seasons Maza made 60 appearances, delivering 4 goals for the Dutch club. On 14 July 2011 Francisco transferred to VfB Stuttgart, signing a contract until 2014. The Mexican had no difficulties in becoming a key back for the Reds.
In 2013 Francisco returned to Mexico and signed a contract with Club América. One year later he moved to Cruz Azul.
Rodríguez represented Mexico in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, but the team exited in the 1st round due to poor performance. He also took part in the 2006 World cup, spending 45 minutes on the pitch in the match versus Portugal. Maza was a starter for all of Mexico’s group matches in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
In 2011 Francisco and four other players of the national team were under the threat of disqualification after they had tested positive for the banned substance of Clenbuterol, which blocked their way to the CONCACAF Gold Cup. However, the ban was withdrawn as it was determined that the five footballers had ingested the banned substance with contaminated meat.
