Mehdi Gregory Giuseppe Lacen is an Algerian footballer who mostly plays on a position of a defensive midfielder. The footballer plays for the national team of Algeria and Getafe CF in the Spanish La Liga.
His first club was Laval in France. One season in the squad showed that Mehdi wasn’t yet capable to claim a solid place in the start for himself and moved to another French club Valence that enjoyed its position in lower divisions.
Lacen moved to Spain in 2005 signing for Alavés. The defender spent three seasons with this club making 86 league appearances and then moved to Racing de Santander in 2008. Having shown quality football he wasn’t deprived of attention from other clubs and having taken the pitch 100 times with four goals for three seasons in Racing he finally moved to Getafe in 2011. During his first season for the Madrid outskirts club Mehdi was a member of the starting eleven quite frequently making 33 appearances with one goal.
As for his international career Mehdi had an advantage of triple choice as far as Mehdi was born in France and had a French passport with an Italian mother and Algerian father. So he could choose to play for either of the French, Italian or Algerian national team.
Lacen took a final decision of representing Algeria in 2010 and made his debut on the 3rd of March in a friendly against Serbia. By the time Mehdi played 16 games for his national team since his first call up.
