Mehmet Kara was born on 21 November 1983 in Werne, Germany. Since childhood he has shown enthusiasm for football. As a young player he participated in the matches between local and regional teams. Mehmet began his senior career playing for SuS Oberaden where he demonstrated his playing skills.
In 2003, Kara continued his professional career at Gaziantep BB. For some time he did not manage to appear on the pitch because of the ligamentous injury. After that he played for Gaziantepspor and Hammer SpVg. In 2007, the player moved to Preußen Münster where he spent 4 years. For that time he scored 4 goals in 64 matches for the club.
The 2011/12 season Mehmet spent at SC Paderborn 07. On 17 July 2011, he made his debut in the 2. Bundesliga match against F.C. Hansa Rostock. That match ended in a 2-1 win.
On 6 June 2012 the player signed a four-year contract with Gençlerbirliği S.K. worth a total of €750,000. However, after half a season with the side Mehmet moved to Germany joining Bundesliga 3 club SC Preußen Münster.
