Mehmet Topal nicknamed Spider (Turkish Örümcek) is a Turkish defensive midfielder at Fenerbahçe SK. He was born on March 3, 1986 in Malatya, Turkey.
The footballer started his professional career at Çanakkale Dardanel SAŞ playing at the TFF First League at that time. Unfortunately, in 2006 the club was relegated to the TFF Second League and Mehmet Topal made a decision to move to Galatasaray. Spider made his debut for the Istanbul club on September 9, 2006 in a match against Denizlispor. Three days later he played against Girondins de Bordeaux in the UEFA Champions League. However the Turkish footballer lost his position in the first string when his club bought Tobias Linderoth, a Swedish midfielder. But soon Tobias Linderoth was pulled out with an injury and substituted with Mehmet Topal, who had become one of the key players of the team by the end of the season.
On July 1, 2012 the football player signed a contract with Fenerbahçe SK for €4.5 million.
As for his international career, Mehmet Topal performed for Turkey National U21 Football Team. His debut took place on February 6, 2008, when he came in for Emre Belözoğlu on the 78th minute in a friendly against Sweden. Mehmet Topal also participated in 4 matches in the UEFA Euro 2008.
