Melvin Platje is a forward of NEC. He was born on 16 December 1988 in Naarden, Netherlands.
Melvin started to play football in junior teams of Omniworld and SV Huizen, but his youth career went forward at a steady gait only when the young footballer joined FC Volendam. Platje’s diligence earned him a place in the main team of the club in the summer 2007. The player made his professional début on 24 August 2007, when he came on as a substitute for Jack Tuyp in the 68th minute of the Eerste Divisie match against FC Zwolle.
In the 2008/2009 season, the club progressed to the Eredivisie, and Melvin became renowned for scoring vitally important goals after coming off the substitutes’ bench. The footballer’s five goals and five assists in the 2010/2011 season either prevented the team from losing, or helped them to become the winners.
In the summer 2011, Platje signed for Eredivisie side NEC on a free transfer. His début for the new club came on 6 August 2011 in the 2-2 draw with Heerenveen. The footballer netted his first goal for NEC during his second game, when his team encountered Excelsior. Melvin went on to the rivals’ net in the second half and propelled his squad to the 2-0 victory.
