Michaël Ciani is a French footballer who currently plays as a central defender for Italian club Lazio.
He started out his football career at Racing Paris in 2001. In the 2003/04 season, Michaël moved to Belgium and joined Charleroi where he played in 18 league games. After a dull three-year stint at French Auxerre, Ciani joined Lorient on a permanent contract in 2007. He shortly established himself as a high-key player making 65 appearances and 4 goals for two seasons. Thanks to his terrific performances, Ciani was noticed by Ligue 1 title-holders Bordeaux. He signed a four-year deal with the club in July 2009. A skillful defender made a total of 91 appearances for the club for three seasons, helping the team enormously during the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League. In 2012, Ciani moved to Lazio.
Michaël Ciani made his international debut for the France U21 team in a friendly against the Netherlands in March 2004. He stayed out of international football for five years until being called up to the France national team in 2009 in a friendly against Spain.
