Míchel Salgado is a Spanish former football player, born in 1975 in As Neves, Galicia. He began his professional career at local football club Celta de Vigo and made his debut in La Liga on 22 January 1995. That game was a 0-4 loss to Real Madrid. He played for Celta until 1999 and the 1996/97 season played for Salamanca on a loan deal.
Salgado completed a move to Real Madrid for €11 million in 1999 and played for them until August 2009. He was a regular since his first season and the following seven seasons, but then faced competition with Sergio Ramos, later he was used more rarely. Throughout his decade-long stay at Real Madrid they claimed four La Liga titles, three domestic cups, in 1999/2000 and 2001/2002 they won UEFA Champions League, and in 2002 they were UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup winners. He left Real Madrid and signed for the Premier League side Blackburn Rovers in 2009. In 2012 he retired due to an injury.
Míchel Salgado played for the Spain national team at youth levels and between 1998 and 2006 he earned 53 caps for the senior squad.
