Miguel Marcos Madera, more commonly known as Míchel is a Spanish footballer who currently plays for Getafe CF mainly on a position of a central midfielder.
Having received his football education at Real Oviedo as a youngster Miguel then moved to Sporting de Gijon to continue his studies where he played one season (2003/04) for the youth ranks. The same year he won the Youth Champions Cup being recognized the player of the match after the final game.
Miguel Marcos Madera signed a professional contract in 2004 beginning with the club’s reserves. Having spent one season there he won promotion to the main squad playing in the Segunda. Through the season 2005/06 he made 24 appearances with one goal in a 4-0 walk over Gimnastic de Tarragona.
In the season 2007/08 Míchel was one of those to drag the Asturian club to their first in ten years La Liga promotion. During the season 2008/09 the footballer was awarded vice-captaincy. By the end of the season the footballer gained 30 appearances with 24 as a starter while his side barely avoided relegation in the last match day. Midfielder’s debut in the top flight came on August 31, 2008 when his side suffered a 1-2 defeat from Osasuna while Míchel himself spent 90 minutes on the pitch.
His career at Birmingham City came to be unsuccessful. The footballer signed a 2.5-year deal with a possibility of a 1-year extension and made his first Premier League appearance on January 27 replacing James McFadden on the 73rd minute of a lost 0-3 home game to Chelsea as their 15-game unbeaten series came to an end. Being suppressed by the stunning form of Birmingham’s captain Barry Ferguson he managed to earn only 9 appearances through a year in the squad so he was included into the list of players available for loan. Thus he moved to AEK in Greek Superleague. Míchel made his debut in a 2-0 win over Skoda Xanthi. Then the player was allowed to the pitch when his side encountered Panathinaikos, Míchel managed to score a spectacular 40-metre free-kick.
Having been unlucky in England he was sold to a Spanish side Getafe for an undisclosed fee. The contract was signed on August 8, 2011. During the season 2011/12 he took the pitch in 22 league games and scored his only goal in a victory over Atlético Madrid where the Madrid team came from behind having one man sent off.
