Miguel Lopes is a defender of Sporting Lisbon. He was born on 19 December 1986 in Lisbon, Portugal.
In 1995 Lopes joined Oriental youth team training at the academy of this club at the same time. In 1999 he moved to the Olivais Moscavide academy for three years. In 2002 Lopes was enticed by Alverca where he spent two years. In 2004 the young footballer joined the Benfica academy in Lisbon where he prepared to start his career in professional football.
In 2005 Miguel Lopes penned a contract with this Portuguese side but he was immediately sent to Benfica B. In the 2005/2006 season he scored 4 goals in 24 matches. Though Benfica is a prestigious football club Lopes finished his career in its reserve team and signed for Operário in 2006. The 2006/2007 season was quite a success for the football player because he took part in 21 games netting 7 goals.
The defender’s solid performances earned him a deal with Rio Ave. From 2007 to 2009 Lopes played virtually in all the matches for this club sometimes missing matches if he got out of shape. During two seasons he kicked 2 goals in 50 matches.
In 2009 the defender sealed a deal with Porto. In the 2009/2010 season Lopes made several appearances but then club management decided to send him on loan. In the 2010/2011 season he took part in 21 games for his temporary team Betis. In January 2012 Lopes was loaned to Braga where he featured in 10 matches in the rest of the 2011/2012 season. In 2013 he moved to Sporting Lisbon in a swap deal for Marat Izmailov. Later on that year Lopes was loaned to Olympique Lyon.
In 2009 Miguel Lopes was called up 3 times to the Portugal U-21 national team. In 2012 the footballer earned his first call-up to the senior side.
