Mike Hanke is a Freiburg striker, born on 5 November 1983 in Hamm, Germany.
Hanke grew up in the youth system of TuS 1910 Wiescherhöfen. He stayed at the club for 7 years and then played for Hammer SpVg and VfL Bochum youth teams. In 2000 Mike joined Schalke 04 and in a year was invited to the reserve team. Thanks to successful displays with 22 goals in 25 appearances, he was promoted to the first squad and secured a permanent spot in the roster. Hanke didn’t manage to impress in the Bundesliga, but still scored 7 goals in 58 matches. However, it wasn’t enough for the management of the club and the footballer was transferred to VfL Wolfsburg.
Mike’s level of performance fell short of expectations and he moved to Hannover 96. After three and a half even less fruitful seasons with Hannover 96, Hanke was purchased by Borussia Mönchengladbach. The player managed to score a goal in his debut match, which helped him to become a regular starter for the club. And the result is 77 appearances for the club.
In 2013 the player switched to Freiburg.
Mike was repeatedly called up to the national youth teams of all levels, starting from Germany U-18. He took part in more than 60 games of the youth squads and made 13 appearances for the senior national team.
