Michael Pollitt is a goalkeeper of Wigan Athletic. He was born on 29 February 1972 in Farnworth, England.
In 1990 Michael joined the main team of Manchester United after graduating from the academy of the club. The same year the keeper was sent on a six-month loan to Oldham Athletic. At the beginning of 1991, Pollitt moved to Macclesfield Town and made only one appearance for the team. From the summer 1991 till the summer 1998, the footballer managed to perform for Bury, Lincoln City, Altrincham, Darlington, Notts County, Gillingham, Brentford and Sunderland. Michael sat on the substitutes’ bench in the majority of clubs, excluding Lincoln City and Darlington, where the goalkeeper managed to reveal his talent and take part in almost every match.
In the summer 1998, Pollitt transferred to Sunderland, but did not stay there for long, as Rotherham United decided to secure his services the same year. The player managed to feature in 94 matches for the club during two years. In 2000 Michael went to Chesterfield and had a great season there, as he made 46 appearances for the team.
In the summer 2001, the footballer returned to Rotherham United and became a first-choice goalkeeper at once. Pollitt showed solid performance during four years as he featured in 175 games for the club. In 2005 Wigan Athletic sealed a deal with the player, but counted on him as on a reserve goalkeeper. That is why Michael was sent on loan at the first opportunity, which was given to him in 2006 and 2007, when he went to Ipswich Town and Burnley respectively.
In 2013 the 41-year old goalkeeper joined Barnsley on loan.
