Mikele Leigertwood is a midfielder of Reading. He was born on 12 November 1982 in Enfield, England.
In 2001 Mikele graduated from the academy of Wimbledon and penned a senior contract with it. After several months in his first club, the footballer went on loan to Leyton Orient, where he gained playing practice by taking part in eight matches. Leigertwood returned from the temporary team and began to come on the pitch more often. The midfielder made 56 appearances and netted two goals for Wimbledon till the summer 2004.
In 2004 the interest of Crystal Palace in the footballer finally shaped up and the club lodged a bid for him. In the summer the same year, Leigertwood completed an official move to ‘The Eagles’ and began to perform for the club almost at once, both coming on as a substitute and being included in the starting XI. The midfielder featured in 63 games and found the net one time during one year in Crystal Palace.
In 2006 Mikele’s services were secured by Sheffield United, where the footballer spent one year and made 21 appearances. In the summer 2007, Leigertwood moved to London side QPR and performed for the club during three years, excluding his loan spell. From 2007 till 2010, Mikele was an unchallenged defensive midfielder of Queens Park Rangers and amassed 12 goals in 131 games. The successful and solid player drew the attention of Reading, which decided to sign him on loan before purchasing. Leigertwood took part in 22 matches for ‘The Royals’ and convinced the coaching staff and the management in his high level of professionalism. In 2011 Mikele officially transferred to the club, where he performs up till now.
From 2008 Leigertwood was capped 11 times and contributed one goal for the Antigua and Barbuda national team.
