Modibo Diakité is a center back for Sunderland. He was born on 2 March 1987 in Bourg-la-Reine, France.
Modibo’s youth career started at Pescara youth academy. Modibo studied there and played for the club’s youth team for several years.
In 2005 Modibo embarked on professional career. He graduated from the academy and joined Pescara senior squad. During his debut 2005/06 season Diakité made only 1 appearance in Italian Serie A. Modibo wasn’t able to show his best and Pescara management decided to sell him during the following transfer window.
In 2006 Diakité was offered a contract by S.S. Lazio. Despite unsightly appearance or rather lack of opportunity to demonstrate his skills the Italian club expressed willingness to purchase the young defender. The transfer fee amounted to €300.000. Modibo signed a long-term contract with Lazio and continued to play for the club mainly as a backup player until 2013 with a total of 83 starts and 2 goals. At that time he joined Sunderland.
Half a year later Modibo was loaned to Fiorentina.
As a Lazio player, Modibo Diakité won Coppa Italia in the 2008/09 and 2012/2013 seasons and Supercoppa Italiana in 2009.
