Mohamed Barakat was born on 7 September 1976 in Cairo, Egypt. He currently plays as a midfielder for Egyptian giants Al-Ahly.
Mohamed embarked on his professional career at a lower-division club Al-Sekka Al-Hadid in 1996. In between 1998 and 2004, he played for such clubs as Ismaily, Qatari side Al-Arabi SC and Al-Ahli SC from Saudi Arabia. In 2004, he joined Egyptian powerhouse Al-Ahly where plays till today. Since then, Barakat collected a great number of honors together with the club. The year 2005, brought Barakat true glory as he was named the CAF Champions League Top Scorer and CAF Best African player in Club Competitions that year. He also won the BBC African Footballer of the Year award. Together with Al-Ahly, Barakat won seven consecutive Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egyptian Cups and five Egyptian Super Cups and three CAF Champions League titles.
Since 2002 till 2009, Mohamed Barakat was a part of the Egypt national team. For that time he scored 9 goals for his side in 70 international matches.
