Mykola Ishchenko is a defender for FC Illichivets. He was born on 9 March 1983 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Despite Mykola’s being a native to the Ukrainian capital, he began his senior career far from Kyiv. In 2002 Ishchenko signed for FC Karpaty Lviv on a three-year contract. Almost immediately Ishchenko earned the trust and support of the head coach of the club, who gave Mykola maximum playing time as a defender. Ishchenko represented Karpaty Lviv until 2008, totaling 124 appearances and 5 goals for six years.
In 2008 the defender joined FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The deal terms and fees have not been disclosed, but the sides quickly reached a consensus. In the 2008/09 season Mykola was a substitute at the “Miners”, making periodic appearances for the club. For three years Ishchenko failed to become a key player at one of the strongest clubs in Ukraine, after which he was loaned to Illichivets, where the defender is currently playing.
From 2003 to 2006 Mykola Ishchenko represented Ukraine U-21, demonstrating great performance and totaling 24 international caps. Since 2011 Mykola Ishchenko is called up to the national team of Ukraine.
