Nana Akwasi Asare is a midfielder of Gent. He was born on 11 July 1986 in Kumasi, Ghana.
Nana’s youth career took off in local Cornerstones, where the footballer trained in the academy and performed for the junior squad. In 2000, Asare moved to the youth system of Feyenoord Ghana, which is a branch of the Rotterdam side team. Three years later, the player was offered to move to the Netherlands, and he accepted the offer without hesitation.
In the summer 2003, Nana penned a professional four-year contract with the club, but he did not manage to clinch a place in the first squad and had to play for the reserve team.
In 2004, the management sent the Ghanaian footballer on loan to Royal Antwerp, where Asare became a regular really soon. The player made 24 appearances and found the net three times for the temporary team during one season.
The following year, Nana went on loan to Mechelen and fired one goal in 36 fixtures for the club during two years.
In 2007, the management of the temporary team decided to secure the footballer’s services on permanent basis and saw him score one goal in 52 games during two years.
In the summer 2009, Asare got an opportunity to return to the Netherlands. The midfielder transferred to Eredivisie side Utrecht, where he made 86 appearances and amassed 11 goals.
In the summer 2013 the Ghanaian joined a Belgian side Gent.
From 2007, Nana has been capped six times for the Ghana national team.
